OF SWANS OPPRESSED BY THE UNITY OF POWER

There is a strong, developmental parallelism between the literary history of Italy and Spain, and this both in terms of "results": quantity, quality, nature of the texts, and of "causes": first a war of liberation, then oppression by the unity of power, and finally a partial return to liberty. Focusing, on the second phase of the oppression, the central
elements of the literary parallelism are, on one side, the Italian
Rinascimento of 1450-1550/1600, and, on the other, the Spanish Siglo de Oro of 1550-1650. [...]
