Whoever is involved in Italian studies sooner or later encounters, or should we say runs up against, la questione della lingua — a question which assumes various shapes in different periods of history but remains alive up to today. Here I plan to discuss la questione della lingua in the 1500s and its relation to the language of the 1500s.
