IN GIOSE RIMANELLI'S UNA POSIZIONE SOCIALE

A surface to surface reading of Giose Rimanelli's novel, Una posizione sociale1, relates the story of a young boy being sent away to boarding school, and through a series of flashbacks one becomes acquainted with various people and their personal histories in the protagonist's life. Yet Rimanelli paints a mosaic that goes beyond the visual, and penetrates the veil of the actual world. The author's native Casacalenda, Molise, is the backdrop for the artist's easel, but the elements used for the portrait are the microcosmic tiles of the universality of the writer's main objective: the confrontation of a metaphorical world of a young boy with the reality of the adult.
